Active Release Technique is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system.

Active Release Technique (ART) is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue treatment commonly used in sports medicine and physical therapy. This movement-based myofascial release technique addresses a range of issues, including:

  • Muscles (e.g., hamstring, quadriceps, calf strains)

  • Tendonitis (e.g., Achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff injuries)

  • Ligament Sprains (e.g., ankle sprains)

  • Fascial Tightness (e.g., plantar fasciitis, IT band syndrome)

  • Nerve Entrapment (e.g., carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica)

Benefits of Active Release Technique (ART)

Active Release Therapy (ART) offers many benefits for those with musculoskeletal issues, especially in the realm of sports medicine and physical therapy. It:

  • Improves Range of Motion: Releases tight muscles and restores full movement.

  • Reduces Pain: Effectively addresses pain from injuries and overuse.

  • Speeds Recovery: Accelerates healing for both acute and chronic conditions.

  • Prevents Future Injuries: Corrects imbalances to reduce the risk of injury.

  • Boosts Performance: Enhances flexibility and movement, improving athletic performance.

  • Non-invasive and Drug-Free: A safe, natural treatment option without the need for surgery or medication.

How does Active Release Technique work?

Active Release Therapy (A.R.T) is designed to treat scar tissue caused by repetitive actions, trauma, or overused muscles, often seen in sports injury recovery and massage therapy. Scar tissue restricts movement, demands an increased oxygen supply, and inhibits proper muscular function. When scar tissue forms, muscles cannot perform their full motion, increasing the likelihood of injury and dysfunction, which ART treatment seeks to resolve.

During ART, muscles are extended under tension to allow the scar tissue to break apart and be reabsorbed by the body. The ART provider uses their hands to assess the texture, tightness, and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments, and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by applying directed tension, combined with specific shortening and lengthening movements of the associated muscles.
